Research Interests: Modern political and intellectual history of MENA, knowledge production, ideological influences on Arab literature and philosophy, international relations, MENA social movements, state formation in the Levant
Mohammad graduated from the American University of Beirut (AUB) with a degree in history and a minor in political science, where his coursework mostly focused on modern Middle Eastern history, politics, and literature. He was a participant in the October 2019 protests in Lebanon, which influenced his academic and political development. He has been active in Lebanon’s anti-establishment movement ever since, organizing and volunteering in AUB’s student elections and Lebanon’s parliamentary elections of 2022, among other efforts. Mohammad is a freelance writer in multiple local outlets, and has been working as a research assistant at AUB’s department of history since last year. He plans to enter academia, and to use his time in CCAS to understand the intellectual and political foundations of anti-establishment social movements in the region, and how these foundations influence the success of these movements and their efforts.
