Ellie Knapman

Research interests: Colonialism and imperialism, revolutionary movements, identity politics, religion and Islamophobia
Ellie graduated from Gettysburg college in 2022, where she majored in Religious Studies with a minor in Middle East and Islamic Studies. In the spring of 2021 Ellie studied abroad in Morocco, where she focused on human rights and migration in North Africa as well as Arabic. Her three months abroad culminated in a research project that explored the impact of French colonialism within the social, economic, and political spheres of Morocco. The following summer Ellie attended the Middlebury Arabic school. Ellie’s graduate capstone work centered around Qur’anic acquisition within non Arab countries and the significance of the Arabic language within Islam.
