Research Interests: Authoritarian governance, historiography, archives, interwar Egypt, comparative history, national identity.
Ali Graduated from The American University in Cairo with a BA in History and Political Science Honors Program. In addition to writing a thesis on the longevity of authoritarian regimes for the honors program, Ali has done research on topics such as the Effendiya class in 1920s Egypt, gender roles during the Algerian war of independence, and student protests in the 1960s in the Nasserite era. Ali is looking forward to utilizing the interdisciplinary opportunities offered by MAAS to expand on his research interests. After his time at MAAS, Ali would like to continue working in interdisciplinary academic fields.
