Aimée Lister
Class of 2026
Hometown: London, UK
Research Interests: Cultural diplomacy, Asia-Middle East relations, US-UK foreign policy, media, literature & film
Aimée graduated with a BA in Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Cambridge, UK in 2020. As part of her undergraduate course, she lived and worked in Cairo for a year. Her experiences living in 3 continents over the past 5 years, as well as roles at the Asia Society in Japan and Jamal Khashoggi’s DAWN MENA, made her appreciate the role that cultural dialogue plays within broader spaces of foreign policy and international relations. This fully crystallised whilst working on the media and editorial team at Beirut-based afikra, a global media and community organization dedicated to reframing dominant understandings of the Arab world by promoting the region’s cultures and histories.
She is a 2024/25 US-UK All Disciplines Postgraduate Fulbright Scholar and joins CCAS excited to further explore the role of cultural diplomacy, learn more about the US’ complex relationship with the Middle East, and the role of soft power in the region. Outside of academics, Aimée is also excited to explore DC and involve herself in the city’s vibrant Asian-American community.
