Summer Teacher Institute 2024: Teaching the History of Palestine and Israel in the K-12 Curriculum: Standards-Based Approaches and Resources

Dates: July 29-August 2, 2024, 10:00 am – 2:30 pm

Venue: Georgetown University, Bunn Intercultural Center (ICC) #141 and online Zoom link to come for virtual attendees.

This year’s summer institute, co-sponsored by the Center for Contemporary Arab Studies and the Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown University, will provide information on the deep history of the issue from primary documents, expert speakers, and evaluation of teaching resources to meet both academic content and skills standards, including the ability to understand multiple perspectives through analysis of documentary sources.

Speakers to be announced soon. Lunch will be served daily, and attendees will receive access to resources, both electronic and print.

9th Annual Children & Youth Literature Workshop Bridging Communities

Join us for this annual Africa & Middle East Spring Literature Workshop for educators and librarians. We will gather to celebrate award-winning children and youth literature around the theme of “Bridging Communities.” Come and hear the authors’ discuss their books, enjoy lunch, and receive free books for your library.

Speakers will include:

  • Bunmi Emenanjo, author of I’ll See You in Ijebu
  • Aminata Jalloh, author of The Taste of Home
  • Nora Lester Murad, author of Ida in the Middle
