Mariam Taher
Qatar Post-Doctoral Fellow
Dr. Mariam Taher serves as the 2024-2025 Qatar Post-Doctoral Fellow at CCAS. She holds a PhD in Cultural Anthropology and Middle East and North Africa Studies from Northwestern University. She earned an MA in International Relations from the University of St Andrews and an MA in Middle East Studies from Leiden University.
Dr. Taher's research and teaching center on questions of security, gender, indigeneities, and processes of racialization, which she traces via spatial analyses of the state. Her dissertation, In the Shadow of Territory: Gendered Mobilities in Siwa, Egypt, examines the multiple, interacting layers that make up security in the daily life of the oasis' indigenous Amazigh community.
