Title: The Devastating Natural Disasters in Morocco and Libya

Dear CCAS Community,

Our hearts are with the thousands of victims of the powerful earthquake that struck Morocco late at night on September 8th and the disastrous flooding in Libya.

The earthquake’s epicenter was near Southwest Marrakech, but was felt throughout the entire country leaving many in need of support. The flooding caused by heavy rains in Northwest Libya from Storm Daniel collapsed two dams, devastating an already inundated area of the country.

Please see ways below in which you can help.

CONNECT.

If you know anyone in the region (remember that neighboring countries were impacted as well), or anyone who has relatives there, call or text to check on them. People are often stronger when they feel supported.

DONATE.

This section will be edited as the situations in both Morocco and Libya continue to unfold, and additional organizations make available the different ways that they can be supported in relief efforts.

Please see this compilation and this website of resources for the earthquake in Morocco shared by our students and alumni.

This GoFundMe has also circulated throughout the academic community. This fundraiser supports medium and long-term relief in the High Atlas Mountains to support agricultural restoration.

Support for Libya can be pursued through several different channels including LibAid, the Libyan Red Crescent, and The World Food Programme

UNICEF, the British Red Cross, and UK in Libya LTD have also organized flood relief campaigns for Libya.

PROMPT ACTION.
