Title: CCAS Mourns the Loss of Mrs. Alice Fakhry

Alice Fakhry

Alice Katherine Fakhry (née Shiber), born in Jerusalem, passed away peacefully in Virginia on January 2, 2023. She was married for 66 years to her late, loving husband, Dr. Majid F. Fakhry, emeritus professor and former chair of the Dept. of Philosophy at the American University of Beirut and professor at Georgetown University’s Center  for Contemporary Arab Studies and Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding.  She is survived by her daughter, Rima, her sons, Dr. Samir and Bassem, and 3 grandchildren. Alice earned her B.A. in History from the American University of Beirut and pursued her master’s studies in history. She worked as a volunteer with the Women’s Auxiliary at the A.U.B. hospital and was president of the Women’s League and the Lioness Club in Lebanon. She was a member of the “Welcome to Washington” club in Washington, D.C. Alice was a professional flower arranger, who won several prizes. She was a gracious hostess who loved cooking and baking. Alice was a warm, caring person and a loving wife and mother. Rima was by her side during her long period of illness. She will be remembered fondly by her family and her many friends.
