Adel Iskandar Speaks About Violent YouTube Footage on Al Jazeera English - Center for Contemporary Arab Studies | Georgetown University

American soldiers as well as fighters from Iraq and Afghanistan are posting raw, violent footage of their conflicts on YouTube and other video-sharing sites. In a recent episode of Al Jazeera English’s Riz Khan Show, CCAS adjunct professor Adel Iskandar voiced his thoughts about these postings.

“[They constitute] a major public relations battle,” he said. “[They are] a public diplomacy tool [and] a psychological operations tool…and the international public is there to make a decision as to whether or not there is such a thing as a victory.”

Iskandar was joined by Dr. Jennifer Terry, Associate Professor at the University of California, Irvine, and Iraqi journalist Mr. Salam Talib.
