Sheridan Johnson
Class of 2027
Sheridan graduated cum laude from American University in 2024 with a B.A. in International Studies, with a thematic concentration in U.S. foreign policy and peace and conflict resolution, and a regional concentration on the Middle East. She was recognized as both a Global Scholar and a Said Peace Scholar. For her senior capstone, she conducted a cross-comparative study of legal frameworks in Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Morocco, examining how applications of Sharia law in marriage rights influence U.S.–Arab relations. She also earned a minor in Arabic and studied at the Qasid Institute in Amman, Jordan.
Her professional experience includes serving for a year as a Communications and Research Intern at the Embassy of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and contributing to a Department of State capstone project with the Bureau of Budget and Planning, where she examined how measurement and evaluation metrics can be applied to strengthen the effectiveness of U.S. diplomatic initiatives.
Through the MAAS program, Sheridan aims to deepen her understanding of the Arab world—particularly its culture and society—while expanding her expertise in U.S.–Arab relations and U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East. In her free time, she enjoys attending concerts, weightlifting, exploring new restaurants, practicing calligraphy, and gardening.
