As part of CCAS’s year-long celebration of the Center’s 50th birthday, CCAS hosted a reception on November 22 in conjunction with the Middle East Studies Association Annual Conference, which was held in Washington DC this year. It was a wonderful community gathering that brought together students, faculty, staff (both past and present), generations of alums, and many other friends of the Center.

Following the opening greeting given by CCAS Director Fida Adely, several faculty gave remarks about CCAS’s long and continuing legacy, including Prof. Marwa Daoudy, Prof.ย Joseph Sassoon, and Professor Emerita Judith Tucker. Dr. Bassam Haddad, an alum of the MAAS program, spoke of the lasting impact of his time at CCAS, both personally and professionally, and told students that the CCAS community will always remain an academic home for them.

Dr. Susan Douglass, also an alum, who recently retired after serving as CCAS’s Director of Education Outreach since 2014, was honored for her decade of service.

Here are a few more pictures from the evening.
