Andrew Larson
Class of 2027
Andrew graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a B.A. in Global Studies. His academic and professional experiences span the Middle East, North Africa, and East Asia, with a focus on cultural diplomacy, identity, and grassroots development. He studied abroad in Amman, Jordan, participating in a Diplomacy and Policy program with advanced Arabic language training, and in Seoul, South Korea, as a Gilman Scholar tutoring North Korean refugees.
He later served as an English Lecturer at Nile Valley University in Atbara, Sudan, through the Sudan Volunteer Programme, where he developed educational and community development programs during the 2021 military takeover. From 2022–2024, he served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco, working primarily with Amazigh communities in the Atlas Mountains. As cofounder of the Moroccan nonprofit, Awal Nouzilal, he led youth development initiatives, managed grassroots projects in cultural preservation, and advocated for marginalized identities.
A 2025 Rangel Fellow, Andrew joins CCAS eager to deepen his understanding of how identities and culture shape diplomacy, grassroots movements, and youth development across the SWANA region. He is particularly interested in cultural anthropology, the intersection of Amazigh and Arab identity, China’s role in the SWANA region, and social media’s role in grassroots movements. After graduation, he aims to enter the U.S. Foreign Service.
