Title: Persian Culture & History: An Interdisciplinary Workshop and Retreat for Educators

Saturday, April 13, 2019, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm with a culinary experience at lunch and an optional evening program with dinner and overnight stay at the Farm of Peace in Warfordsburg, PA, a natural setting on an organic farm and study center.

Sponsored by the Center for Contemporary Arab Studies and the Fund for the Future of Our Children

Persian history is often rushed over in the world history curriculum, despite its outsized role of long duration. Today, the importance and value of Persian/Iranian culture is ignored and misunderstood. This extraordinary event for educators will highlight a wide range of disciplines that illustrate the impact of Persian history and culture on the world, carrying a legacy of power, grace and beauty from ancient times to the present. Leading scholars of history, literature, dance, architecture and the visual arts will illustrate the amazing contributions and influence of Persian and Iranian culture during this long period, culminating in contemporary expressions of the arts.

Lunch and dinner will be served, and attendees will receive a book and access to other materials. The workshop will be hosted at the Farm of Peace, 1212 Haven Lane, Warfordsburg PA 17267, about a 2 hour drive from Washington, D.C. Attendees are invited to come to this all-day workshop, and to reserve an overnight stay and relaxing retreat experience at this rural retreat. Attendees must commit to attending by paying a deposit of $25.00 by check, which will be returned at the conclusion of the program. (Please mail to Susan Douglass, CCAS Georgetown University, ICC #241, 3700 O St. NW, Washington DC 20057) NOTE: here will be a special drawing at which three winning attendees will receive a complimentary overnight stay! Rooms at the Farm are reasonably priced at $80 for a single, $110 for a double, and $130 for a triple room—so bring a colleague or family member for a fun experience! Register with this form.

This event is made possible by a Title VI grant from the US Department of Education, which is funding a National Resource Center on the Middle East and North Africa at Georgetown University, and additional gifts.
