Will Todmann (MAAS ’16) has been awarded a 2015 Bou Scholarship for international students. Will Todman, a rising second-year MAAS student from Warwick, England has been awarded a $2,500 Bou Scholarship. The Bou Family Foundation Grant assists international graduate students with educational expenses. The competitive selection process is based on academic merit and financial need, as well as the applicant’s contributions to serve others and the applicant’s professional goals following graduation. Since foreign students aren’t eligible to apply for some of the scholarships or grants that are available to American students, says Will, this scholarship will help enormously with easing the financial burden of being an international graduate student at Georgetown.
While at Georgetown, Will has focused his studies on politics with a particular interest in conflict resolution and issues pertaining to refugees. He has previously worked for an advisor to the UN’s envoy to Syria, at Chatham House, for the British Embassy in Beirut, as a graduate researcher in Jordan, and has translated for the Sunday Times. At Oxford, where Will received his undergraduate degree in Oriental Studies (Arabic with Modern Hebrew) from St John’s College, he served as Vice President of the college’s student body. Will has also been active in a number of activities during the MAAS program, including helping to organize a successful fundraiser for the Collateral Repair Project, a grassroots organization in Jordan that assists refugees and other victims of conflict. This summer Will is working as a Research Associate at Mercy Corps’ Beirut office, where is writing a paper on how to get humanitarian access to besieged areas in Syria.
