Title: CCAS calls for revisions to TX high school curriculum

The Center for Contemporary Arab Studies shares concerns with the Texas Coalition for Human Rights and many other groups regarding the proposed Texas high school curriculum that will be voted on this week. On November 12, 2018, CCAS submitted a letter to the Texas State Board of Education expressing these concerns, particularly those related to teaching and content about the Middle East in social studies classes. The proposed changes to the curriculum, as well as the existing language of the social studies standards, do not align with the skills that students are required to learn and leave no room for the kind of critical thinking, use of evidence, viewing events from multiple perspectives, and recognizing bias that students in Texas schools are required to learn.
