Dr. Hannu Juusola is Professor of Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Helsinki, Finland, where he serves as Director of the M.A. program for Area and Cultural Studies and teaches regularly on modern Middle Eastern history, societies, and politics. He previously served as Director of the Finnish Institute in the Middle East, which was based in Damascus at the time and is now in Beirut. Dr. Juusola’s current research focuses on secularism debates in Lebanon. He is a visiting research scholar at CCAS for the 2019 calendar year.
