HE Lolwa El-Khater: Media and Politics in the Middle East

Georgetown University’s Center for Contemporary Arab Studies is pleased to host Lolwah Al-Khater, spokesperson for the Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to discuss her perspective on media and politics in the Middle East. Lolwah stands at the forefront of the intersection of media and politics and has a comprehensive understanding of the role the media plays in shaping public perception of the various events that are currently bringing turmoil to the region and the world. During a time of drastic change in the Middle East as it pertains to the media’s role in society, Lolwah will draw expertise from her own experiences for an in-depth discussion on how media defines the narrative in the Middle East.

About H.E. Lolwah Al-Khater

Her Excellency, Lolwah R M Al-Khater serves as the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar. Besides the official capacity, HE. Al-Khater is the co-editor of “Policy-making in a Transformative State: the case of Qatar” and the author of the book, “Educational Outputs and Labor Market Needs: A study on Labor Market Issues and methods of Addressing Them.”

Lolwah holds a Master’s of Science in Computing and a Master’s of Arts in Public Policy. Currently, she is a Dphil Candidate in the area of Oriental Studies looking at the question of Islam and Modernity in the context of the Arab Nahda as well as a Research Associate at The Oxford Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Forum at St. Antony’s College at the University of Oxford. HE. Al-Khater is also a board member at The Institute for Palestine Studies.
