Professor George Saliba questions conventional assumptions regarding the relationship between Arabic science and the Latin West. Noting that a number of "revolutionary" discoveries credited to Copernicus and other western astronomers had in fact been achieved centuries earlier in the Islamic world, Saliba maintains that Arabic manuscripts played a vital role in the development of Renaissance science.
