CCAS is pleased to announce its latest Occasional Paper, entitled "Passing a Flaming Torch: The Middle Eastern Issues Confronting the Obama Administration,” by Rami G. Khouri. Mr. Khouri, a CCAS board member, is the Director of the Issam Fares Institute of Public Policy and International Affairs at the American University of Beirut as well as editor-at-large of the Beirut-based Daily Star newspaper. He is an internationally syndicated political columnist and author.
Mr. Khouri’s paper outlines ten Middle Eastern issues facing both the Arab world and the Obama administration, including the polarization of Arab society, a diffusion and pluralism of power, a regional dynamic of violence, and the Arab-Israeli conflict. The author frames these issues and also discusses how policymakers might address and ameliorate them.
