The Center for Contemporary Arab Studies, is seeking a K-14 Educational Outreach Coordinator to manage all aspects of the Center’s educational outreach program to K-14 educators, including conceptualizing, developing and implementing workshops and seminars; researching teachers’ needs in terms of curriculum, instruction, and content knowledge through ongoing research and formal and informal interviews and information gathering and working with curriculum specialists to conceptualize, design, develop and write curriculum resources for workshops and lessons plans; serving as an advisor/consultant to educators and as a link to national outreach efforts; developing and coordinating the publication and dissemination of curriculum resources for use in classrooms; identifying and sending speakers to K-14 classes; developing and maintaining a lending library of books, films, and other resources and expanding outreach program presence on the internet; and keeping educators apprised of professional development opportunities at GU and in the DC area. The position also develops and implements the deliverables for and requirements of the educational outreach component of Georgetown’s National Resource Center on the Middle East (funded by the U.S. Department of Education). Required qualifications: M.A. in the social sciences or Middle East-related field; excellent knowledge of the Middle East and Islam; experience in educational program design and management; experience in curriculum writing, research, and design; familiarity with U.S. elementary and secondary school social studies curricula; excellent English writing skills; familiarity with the Arabic language; strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Preferred qualifications: experience living or working in the Arab world; high working proficiency of the Arabic language; experience in substantive editing and copyediting of publications; K-14 teaching experience. Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certification: Computer literacy (Word, Excel, Internet).
