Zachary Foster

Zachary J. Foster (a.k.a Zeki) graduated with honors from the University of Michigan in 2007 with degrees in political science and sociology. He also minored in Middle East studies.  He then spent two years schlepping around the Middle East, including one year in Jerusalem as a graduate fellow at the Shalem Center, where he pursed research on, inter alia, pedagogical strategies employed by strictly-Orthodox (Jewish) religious seminaries; nine months of Arabic study in Ramallah/Birzeit and Damascus; and four months volunteering in Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam’s School for Peace, the only intentionally bi-national community in Israel. Zach is also a Beinecke Scholar. His research interests include identity in Palestine in the late Ottoman and early Mandate periods.
