Zulkifly Abdul Malek joined the Malaysian Foreign Service in 2003. In it, he has served in the External Information Department and the Policy Planning Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Zulkifly was also a member of the Malaysian delegate to the Sixty-First Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York in the fall of 2006, where he participated in Security Council meetings, UNGA special emergency sessions on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, and the First Committee Sessions on Disarmament and International Security. He recently returned from an assignment at the Embassy of Malaysia in Algiers, Algeria, where he was posted as First Secretary since March 2006.
Born and raised in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, Zulkifly graduated with a bachelor’s in business administration from the International Islamic University Malaysia in 2002. His concentration at CCAS is politics, and his areas of interest include international relations of the Middle East, the Arab/Israeli conflict, and U.S. foreign policy towards the Middle East. If not too engulfed with the readings, he spends time with his wife raising their daughter.
