Rana Khoury

Grad Date:05/31/2011 rk328@hoyamail.georgetown.edu

Rana Khoury was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Syrian parents who were giving her lessons on politics, culture, and the Middle East before she was eating solids.  However, it was the events of September 11 and those that followed from Washington that ignited in her a deeper curiosity about the political world.  So, Rana left suburbia for the nation's capital, where she attended American University and studied political science.  While there she held various political internships, though it was being a teaching assistant she enjoyed most.  After graduating, Rana took off to live in Damascus, Syria, for nearly a year, keeping her eye on the MAAS program at Georgetown from the airport. Rana enjoyed life in Syria much more than she anticipated, and also became enamored with the intricacies of Arabic grammar like so many other students of the language.  However, it was her students at the UNRWA-administered Husseinieh refugee camp who made her experience priceless.

In her free time, Rana enjoys reading, exercise, and making decorative soaps.
