Grad Date:05/31/2010 sh454@georgetown.edu

Shay Hazkani was born in Israel, where he graduated from Tel Aviv University and received his B.A in Middle Eastern studies magna cum laude. His research focuses on U.S. involvement in the Middle East from an historical perspective, a subject he hopes to explore further at Georgetown. Shay has published a few articles in refereed journals, most recently an article about the usage of anti-Semitic propaganda films from the Third Reich era, which was published in a Yale University journal, Moreshet-Journal for the Study of the Holocaust and Antisemitism. Shay has traveled to Egypt and Jordan.

For four years, Shay worked for an Israeli national TV network (Channel 10 News) as its military correspondent, providing daily on-the-scene reports and commentary for the evening news edition—including on-location reports from the Gaza Strip, South Lebanon, and the West Bank. Shay's highlight was the extensive coverage of the 2005 disengagement from the Gaza Strip, the rise of Hamas, and the ongoing conflict in that region since. He is also well-known to the Israeli audience from his reports from the front lines of the 2006 Second Lebanon War. Prior to his work with Channel 10, Shay was the settlements and territories correspondent for a national radio station (Galei Tzahal) for three years. He was responsible for covering Palestinian issues, regional IDF operations, and Jewish settlements. Apart from his positions in the Israeli media, Shay has been an expert commentator for the Al Jazeera television channel.

Shay specializes in military-related issues, intelligence and terrorism, and also broadcasted numerous stories related to human rights, a few of them were discussed in Israeli and international media and on various international forums.
