Julian Hadas

Julian Hadas was born in Buffalo, New York, but spent most of his childhood growing up abroad in France and the United Kingdom. He graduated from Boston University in 2003 with a B.A. summa cum laude in philosophy and Ancient Greek, and wrote a senior thesis about the philosophical concept of the good life and its applicability to international development. Since graduation, Julian has spent most of his time living in the Middle East and working on his Arabic. He served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, teaching English in a secondary school. Subsequently, he was awarded a two-year Flagship grant for intensive Arabic study, and spent a year at the University of Damascus, Syria. Julian's interests include Islamic fundamentalism and the role it plays in the debate between modernity and tradition in the Arab world. He also works as an Arabic translation intern for the U.S. Department of State.
