Christopher Alkhoury

Grad Date:05/31/2010 cma73@georgetown.edu

Christopher Alkhoury graduated from Florida State University in 2007, Phi Beta Kappa, with a B.A. in international affairs with a concentration on the Middle East and a B.A. in political science as well as a minor in Arabic. He wrote his honors thesis on the negative correlation between political access and political violence in the context of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. His first encounter with politics of the Middle East occurred when he was a freshman in high school as a member of a Model United Nations Team, and from that point on his interest only grew.

Chris spent two months during the summer of 2006 in Irbid, Jordan in an intensive Arabic language program during which he took a few short trips to Syria and Egypt. He anxiously awaits his return to the region. Although he is interested in almost every political facet of the region, his primary research interests involve Islamic organizations such as the Muslim Brotherhood and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), specifically the intricacies of these movements and their internal politics. Upon graduation from Georgetown University with his M.A. in Arab Studies (with a concentration in politics and a sound proficiency in Arabic) he hopes to positively influence United States foreign policy in the region.

In his spare time Chris also enjoys spending time with his friends, family, and girlfriend, bartending, playing cards, and long walks on the beach.
