Qatar Scholarship Program
Qatar University is a modern campus with clean facilities and many amenities. It is divided into adjacent women's and men's sections. Faculty and staff have access to both campuses, however students are restricted to their respective campuses and classrooms. The scholarship recipients however, both male and female, will all go to the male side of campus for Arabic Language instruction.
The computer lab is fully equipped, and if you prefer to bring your own laptop it provides a fast Ethernet connection. The University has a health clinic, where all appointments and medications given are free of charge. There is a gym, a library and a student activities center with the usual American fast food chains, an ATM machine, computer lab, games room and several lounge areas. The stipend for scholarship students is 500 Rs per month, which you can pick up in the student activities center with your photo ID.
Male students will be housed in the university residence hall, located on al-Rayyan road, about 20 minutes from the main campus and it houses most of the University's non-Qatari male students. A shuttle bus commutes between the campus and the residence hall regularly. Each student on the scholarship program will have a private furnished room with its own air conditioning unit. Rules in the residence hall are relaxed; students can come and go as they please, smoke, and play music as loud as they like etc... but there are two exceptions: no alcohol is allowed, and no female guests are allowed.
The residence has a dining hall that provides three free meals a day and students can take as much food back into their rooms as they like. There is also a gym, TV room, and many games/activity areas. The primary language spoken in the residence hall is Arabic, but most students also understand English. There is a laundry service that will take, for free, 10 items per week per student, with payment for additional items.
Female students will be housed in the Qatar University Apartments. Each apartment will house two to three scholarship recipients, each with their own room. The apartments are fully furnished, complete with full bath and kitchen. They are air-conditioned, with laundry machines, telephones, and cable TV. Female students are responsible for their own meals. The University bus service will take students to and from the campus several times a day, and taxis are also available. Whereas some female students at the University live in residence halls and have strict curfews, Qatar University apartments offer a more relaxed environment where female students have said they felt safe without feeling overly restricted.
