Qatar Scholarship Program

The deadline for submission of the 2010-2011 academic year application will be in early 2010. This is also the deadline for the receipt of all academic transcripts, a letter of reference from a recent Arabic professor and the personal statement. Please do not include any other materials with your application; they will not be reviewed. The reference letter must be received in a sealed envelope with the signature of the recommender across the back opening. Please print the paper application and mail to:

The admissions committee will be making a preliminary selection of the strongest applicants, who will then be asked to take a written and/or oral Arabic exam. The exam will test your vocabulary, spelling and grammar skills and will include an oral component which is administered over the phone with a Georgetown University Arabic professor. The oral component will test your vocabulary, pronunciation and general proficiency in Arabic. Upon completion of the exams, we will request that the strongest applicants schedule an interview, in English and Arabic, administered over the phone, with members of our admissions committee. In short, the selection process consists of:

  • Application Form
  • Personal Statement
  • Official Transcript(s)
  • Reference Letters
  • Written and/or Oral Exam (administered in Arabic after the application deadline)
  • Phone Interview (administered in English after the Written and Oral Exam)

Once committee decisions have been made, scholarship recipients will be contacted via email. We expect this to be in the beginning of April. Scholarship recipients will have three weeks to accept their place in the program and to submit the Health Information Form and Release Waiver. The Health Information Form has a section to be completed by a physician, so please plan for this well in advance of the deadline.
