Gábor Ágoston was visiting professor in the Institut für Geschichte at Vienna University in 2003, and at Georgetown, was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2004. His latest publications in English include Guns for the Sultan: Military Power and the Weapons Indtry in the Ottoman Empire (Cambridge University, 2005); “Behind the Turkish War Machine: Gunpowder Technology and War Industry in the Ottoman Empire, 1450-1700,” in The Heirs of Archimedes: Science and the Art of War through the Age of Enlightenment (MIT, 2005); “A Flexible Empire: Authority and its Limits on the Ottoman Frontiers,” in Ottoman Borderlands: Issues, Personalities and Political Changes (University of Wisconsin, 2003); and “Early Modern Ottoman and European Gunpowder Technology” in Multicultural Science in the Ottoman Empire (Brepols, 2003).
