Barbara Stowasser, "Teaching Women and Islam in the American Classroom."

Barbara Stowasser participated in the Middle East Studies Association conference in San Francisco with a paper on Tafsir as part of the workshop, “Teaching Women and Islam in the American Classroom.” She also chaired the panel on “Methodological Problems in the Study of Gender.”In late November/early December, Professor Stowasser delivered several lectures on “Women in Early Islam” at Koç University in Istanbul, where she also presented a faculty seminar on “Women’s Political Rights in the Contemporary Islamist Discourse.” Thereafter, she participated in a Helsinki University conference on “The Arab Family,” where she delivered a keynote lecture on “Family Issues and Legal Reform in the Arab World.”
