The Center for Contemporary Arab Studies, in partnership with the Brekelmans family, announces the establishment of the Nina Brekelmans Scholarship Fund to support students of the Masters of Arts in Arab Studies (MAAS) program, particularly those with a demonstrated interest in promoting women's empowerment in the Middle East.
Nina Brekelmans graduated from the MAAS program in May, 2015. The CCAS community was deeply saddened by her tragic and premature passing on June 3, shortly after graduation. Nina was known as an intelligent, gracious, warm, and caring young woman. While at CCAS, she was involved in countless community activities, and she touched the lives of many individuals on and off campus. Nina was also loved and cherished by many in the Middle East, having lived in both Jordan and Egypt. The endowed scholarship fund will honor Nina's memory and accomplishments by supporting MAAS students who demonstrate an interest in women's empowerment, an issue that was very dear to Nina.
