The CCAS congratulates HE Ambassador Mohammed Jaham Al Kuwari on the induction of the Embassy of the State of Qatar into the Georgetown 1789 Society in recognition of its support of the Center and University. The Embassy of the State of Qatar stands as a symbol of the close friendship between the American and Qatari people. In developing a world-class educational system, Qatar has welcomed the presence of American universities including Georgetown’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, now celebrating it ten-year anniversary in Doha. Furthering its nation’s mission to serve as a platform for global learning and dialogue, the Embassy of Qatar has provided longstanding support to the Center for Contemporary Arab studies (CCAS). With tremendous generosity, the Embassy of Qatar established the Qatar Post-Doctoral Fellowship program at CCAS, bringing outstanding young scholars to Georgetown to focus on the critical areas of US-Arab relations, Arab studies and Islamic studies. Through their research, teaching and public lectures, the Qatar Post-Doctoral Fellows promote discourses among people of different cultures and beliefs, embodying the spirit of Georgetown. In addition to the Embassy’s extensive gifts to CCAS, it has also made a vital contribution to the endowment of the Clovis and Hala Salaam Maksoud Chair in Arab Studies. With its many initiatives to foster cooperation and understanding among nations, the Embassy of the State of Qatar serves as a model of global diplomacy.

With profound gratitude, Georgetown’s 1789 Society celebrates these benefactors, who embody the founding ideals of Bishop John Carroll faith, integrity, compassion and as abiding commitment to freedom of inquiry in the Jesuit tradition. In the institution’s 226th year, Georgetown is proud to honor The Embassy of the State of Qatar as a member of this exceptional fellowship.
